Give Your Books Another Chapter.

Your gently used books can help Stories for Everyone expand access to affordable books, support Reading Carts and literacy programs, create thoughtful bundles and giveaways, and keep usable materials in circulation.

If you have books to donate, submit the short request form. We’ll review the quantity, condition, location, photos, and our current storage and program needs before confirming the next step.

Submitting the form does not guarantee pickup or acceptance. Please wait for written confirmation before leaving books or traveling to a meeting location.

Why donate to Stories for Everyone?

Stories for Everyone is a literacy initiative operated by Kind Impact LLC. We give books a second life through affordable resale, curated bundles, Reading Carts, community literacy programs, giveaways, redistribution, and approved creative reuse.

Each donation is reviewed individually. We cannot promise a specific destination for every book, but we work to choose the most useful, responsible path available based on condition and current community needs.

Books we are currently most interested in

  • Board books, picture books, and early readers

  • Children’s chapter books and middle-grade books

  • Young-adult books

  • Popular adult fiction, romance, mystery, fantasy, and historical fiction

  • Cookbooks, parenting, education, homeschool, mental-health, memoir, Christian, and classic titles

  • Complete or nearly complete series

  • Books that can support current bundles, Reading Carts, literacy programs, or community projects

Condition Guidelines

Books should be clean, dry, complete, and safe to handle and store. Normal shelf wear, a name written inside the cover, a short inscription, or very limited markings may be acceptable.

Some fair-condition books may still support literacy programs, low-cost bundles, giveaways, or approved creative reuse when they remain clean and usable.

Please do not submit books with:

  • Mold, mildew, musty odor, or water damage

  • Smoke, strong chemical, pet, or other persistent odors

  • Pest or rodent damage

  • Wetness, bodily-fluid contamination, or other health hazards

  • Missing chapters, extensive torn-out pages, or unusable bindings

  • Heavy staining, sticky residue, or writing/highlighting throughout

  • Heavy coloring, scribbling, or marker damage in children’s books

  • Pornographic material, hate propaganda, or materials that dehumanize protected groups

  • Encyclopedias, general reference sets, or outdated textbooks

  • Clearly outdated medical, legal, financial, technology, or travel information

  • General magazine donations unless a specific craft-material collection has been announced

Photos and descriptions help us review a donation, but final acceptance occurs after inspection. A book may also be declined because of duplicate inventory, low demand, limited storage, or lack of a current program or creative-reuse need.

How Book Donation Requests Work

Submit the donation form

1

Tell us approximately how many books you have, the categories and condition, your location, preferred intake option, access details, and availability. Include clear photos whenever possible.

Wait for review

2

We’ll review the submission and choose one of the following:

  • Approve the request and confirm an intake option

  • Ask for clearer photos or more information

  • Approve only part of the collection

  • Delay the intake because of storage, transportation, or scheduling limits

  • Decline the request based on condition, category, location, quantity, or capacity

Please do not leave books at a location or travel to a meetup until you receive written confirmation.

Confirm the handoff

3

If approved, we’ll confirm the date, time window, location, estimated quantity, preparation requirements, and whether the books will be inspected at handoff or after sorting.

Possible arrangements may include:

  • Scheduled drop-off

  • Scheduled public meetup

  • Approved porch or contactless pickup

  • A qualifying larger pickup

  • An approved event or partner-location option when available

Stories for Everyone does not currently offer unscheduled walk-in donation drop-offs.

We inspect, sort, and route the books

4

Books are reviewed for safety, condition, usefulness, and current needs. Accepted books may support:

  • Affordable individual resale

  • Curated book bundles

  • Reading Carts and literacy programs

  • Community giveaways

  • Redistribution to another organization

  • Blackout poetry, paper crafts, or other approved creative reuse

  • Responsible recycling when a book cannot be reused

We cannot promise a particular destination for each individual book.

Book Donation Pickup

Stories for Everyone may offer pickup when the quantity, location, condition, route, timing, vehicle capacity, storage, and expected usefulness make pickup practical. Pickup is not guaranteed.

Distance is measured one way from central Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Distance

Free-Pickup Minimum

Possible Below-Charge Minimum

0-15 miles

At least 25 books or 1 full box

$10

At least 75 books or about 3 full boxes

15-30 miles

30-50 miles

At least 150 books or about 6 full boxes

$20

$35

These are eligibility guidelines, not guarantees. Drop-off or a public meetup should be considered first when a charge would apply.

Pickup beyond 50 miles is case-by-case. The standard quote is a $35 base charge plus $0.50 for each round-trip mile beyond the 50-mile boundary, rounded to the nearest $5. Any charge and its terms will be confirmed in writing and paid through the approved Kind Impact payment method before the pickup is placed on a confirmed route unless a written waiver is approved.

A pickup charge covers travel and pickup service only. It is not payment for the books, does not guarantee acceptance, and does not make the donation tax-deductible.

Preparing Your Books for Pickup

Before a confirmed pickup:

  • Pack books in sturdy boxes, bins, or manageable bags.

  • Keep containers at a safe lifting weight.

  • Protect the books from rain, snow, moisture, and extreme temperatures.

  • Place books at the approved ground-level or reasonably accessible location.

  • Disclose stairs, long walks, gates, pets, parking restrictions, or access concerns before scheduling.

  • Secure pets away from the pickup area.

  • Clearly label books for Stories for Everyone during a contactless pickup.

  • Keep unsafe or contaminated books separate; they will not be taken.

Standard pickup does not include entering a home, basement, attic, storage unit, or other private living area. No representative is required to enter a building or continue a pickup that feels unsafe.

Contactless Pickup

Contactless pickup may be approved when:

  • Written authorization is provided

  • The exact pickup location is confirmed

  • The books are clearly labeled

  • The books are protected from weather

  • The location is safe and accessible

  • The donor confirms that the books are intentionally being donated

Stories for Everyone will not remove books or other property that are not clearly identified as part of the approved donation.

  • Pickup and advance photos do not guarantee that every book will be accepted.

  • Stories for Everyone may leave behind unsafe books, books outside current standards, or books that exceed vehicle or storage capacity.

  • Donation pickup is separate from the Second Story Book Buyback Program.

  • Books given through the donation process are donated voluntarily without payment or store credit.

  • A donation cannot be converted into a buyback after the books have been collected.

  • Kind Impact LLC is a for-profit limited liability company, not a tax-exempt charitable organization.

  • Book donations are not tax-deductible charitable contributions through Kind Impact LLC.

  • A factual receipt acknowledgment may be available upon request, but it is not a charitable tax receipt and will not assign a value to the books.
